Low on Energy? 4 Matcha Green Tea Recipes to Power Up with DōMatcha

January 23, 2023

Do you find yourself falling asleep at the desk more often than not? With the winter months approaching, we may find ourselves feeling more lethargic than usual. Shorter days, colder weather, and less sunlight can be a recipe for lower moods. In fact, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) occurs in 0.5 to 3 percent of individuals in the general population. Fortunately, there are ways we can double down on our wellness routines this season to help prevent some these symptoms from taking over and affecting our lives.

We love sipping on matcha green tea year-round, but find that, especially in the winter, we could all use an extra boost of energy.

Our conventional and organic matcha green tea powder contains a light dose of caffeine, antioxidants, and vitamins that help strengthen our immunity, as well as L-theanine, which was been shown to increase focus and alertness. Here are 4 delicious matcha green tea recipes you can make with Domatcha all winter long.

Frothy Almond Milk Green Tea Latte

When you consume high-quality, 100% stone ground matcha, the resulting flavor profile is vibrant and smooth on the palette, so much so that you don’t need to add anything to it. However, if you love a creamier or frothy taste (like a latte or a cappuccino), adding steamed almond milk to your matcha paste instead of hot water is the perfect way to achieve this.

For this recipe, all you need to do is prepare matcha as you usually would, using a ceramic bowl, a bamboo whisk, and 2 tablespoons of hot water. Whisk until you get a smooth matcha paste. Then, froth 125 mL of almond milk either using a hand frother or a milk steamer. Alternatively, you can heat it up over a small pot on the stovetop, but you won’t achieve the same froth. Voila, you can have this in the morning instead of your coffee, or as an afternoon pick me up, or a bedtime snack (with Master’s Decaf, of course).

Pro tip: Add powdered 1 teaspoon of collagen it for additional skin and bone health benefits.

Vanilla Matcha Protein Smoothie

Life gets busy. Not all of us have the luxury to sit down for a healthy breakfast—in fact, many people resort to slugging down coffee as a replacement for whole food. This may give them a temporary jolt of energy but lead to energy dips later on. This is why we love quick and healthy recipes that incorporate superfoods like matcha into our mornings for more sustained energy and satiety.

Matcha is literal food—as it is made from the whole tea leaf, slowly stone grinded to produce green tea powder that’s rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and chlorophyll.

Try this protein-rich, antioxidant-filled vanilla matcha protein smoothie next time you’re on the go or right after a heavy workout.

This matcha chia pudding is not only satiating because of the fibrous chia seeds but will run through your digestive system smoothly without causing any congestion we usually get from other foods. When our digestion is on its A- game, so is our energy levels. This matcha chia pudding is perfect for a quick breakfast, snack, or dessert.

Matcha Power Balls

When we’re tired, we naturally crave sugar because it’s the simplest route to energy. However, consuming sugar snacks can cause our blood sugar to spike and fall.

This is why we love adding a boost of sweetness, but with whole, unprocessed foods to our afternoon snack routine—or mid-morning pick me up. These matcha power balls are the perfect-sized gems to curb any sweet tooth.
