Hot Matcha Apple Cider for the holidays!

November 08, 2018

This hot apple cider with matcha added is a great recipe for apple season. You can go with our suggested spices or get creative with your own preferred flavours. Cinnamon sticks, circle orange slices and star anise make great garnishes when serving!

Ingredients:

Place apples in a large stockpot or slow cooker and to cover the apples by at least 3 inches. Stir in the spices and sweetener. Bring to a boil and keep at a boil for about an hour. Then cover the pot and simmer for 2-3 hours.

If using a slow cooker, instead of bringing to a boil, you can leave on high for around 6 hours.

Use a potato masher to mash the apples. Strain apple mixture though a fine sieve. You can discard the solids or get creative and use them for apple butter or pie. Drain cider again though cheesecloth. Add matcha, stir well. To ensure the matcha mixes well into the cider, you may want to whisk the matcha with a small amount of hot water (ideally 80C/175F) before adding to the cider. You can serve immediately hot, or chill and reheat to serve later.
